Android VS IPhone

Android Vs IPhone

Usually when you hear someone talking on this subject you hear something like,

Android is more customizable than IOS

        Apple is more privacy focused

Android’s split screen support is really useful

IPhone continuity features are supper useful

Android phones have USB-C, a variety of devices, always on displays, more customizable looks, cameras with more mega pixels and the ability to side loads app.

IPhone get updates for half a decade have better more premium support, generally just work, have better resale value, have more accessories to choose from, and generally just benefit from tighter integration of hardware and software

But let’s try it another way, let’s try to dig deep a little deeper and cover some ground that is more interesting or let’s say more important.

Now, whether considering and android device or and IOS for your next phone, there is always more than one reason to prefer one over the other. One thing is for sure, there is no reason to trash someone else’s treasure, use what makes you happy and let others do the same. Let’s start by scraping some top level strengths and weakness for each side

1.       IPhone is not a solitary product:

Apple Products

It is deeply interconnected with other complimentary apple products it services. In fact, I would go so far as to argue that the IPhone itself isn’t the real product that apple is trying to sell here. Instead it is almost like it’s more of a feature of apples actual product and more of part of an “Apple Ecosystem”. A deep Ecosystem can feel like a really great feature to somebody, because the more apple devices a person buys, the more powerful and useful that ecosystem becomes.

The Flip side is

The cost of building that ecosystem makes it seriously expensive.

On the android side of things.

2.       Reliance on Google surveillance capitalism machines.

google surveillance

This is because at its heart, google is not in the business of selling phones as much as it is in the business of selling adds. So the more private information and experiences google has access to, the more personalized targeted and effective their operating system apps, services and Yes Adds can be. Now a more personalized experience can feel like a very great feature to people, because the more the company knows about you, the more the company can serve you.

The Flip side

That efficiency might come at the expense of true autonomy. If Your information is productized and potentially exploited on this platform, can you ever be certain that the products you are buying and the information you are consuming is of your own free will.

There really is no such thing as the perfect phone or the perfect company. At the end of the day, your decision is going to boil down to which company to trust more.

It is probably safe to say that IPhones are more like a well-developed standard which upgrades its features and makes them better as the years go by when they bring up new versions. On the other hand,

Android phones rather compete with each other trying to bring innovative and attractive features. As a result, android manufactures try to grab headlines not just by being androidicaly deferent but by also being radically deferent. This may lead to breakthroughs and may also lead to some downfalls.

But in either case, when you consider the core Smartphone experience, it really doesn’t change from year to year. Smart phones Text, they Game, Browse, Email, call, take photos. And a new form factor like a foldable(android) or a more private surfing(apple) don’t really do that much to change the fundamental smartphone experience. The truly stand out features are likely to get copied by either sides over the next generation.
